Insomnia and sleep treatment in Reston, Lansdowne and across Virginia
Poor sleep makes everything else harder, and it is rarely just a sleep problem. We look at the whole picture. Most new patients are seen within two weeks.
Does this sound familiar?
- Lying awake for an hour or more most nights
- Waking at 3 or 4 a.m. and not getting back to sleep
- Dreading bedtime
- Relying on alcohol or over-the-counter aids to sleep
- Daytime exhaustion, low mood or anxiety that tracks with bad nights
How we treat insomnia
We evaluate the common drivers of insomnia: anxiety, depression, medications, caffeine and alcohol, schedule, pain and sleep apnea. Treatment emphasizes cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), the most effective long-term approach, delivered by our therapist, with short-term medication when it helps and a plan to come off it. When sleep apnea is suspected we coordinate testing through VPMC primary care.
